Lockheed Martin selects Accipiter
Systems to help develop advanced network
Accipiter Systems has been chosen
by Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Senors - Akron to help develop and
demonstrate a prototype network that combines the throughput capacity of free
space optical communications with the reliability of radio frequency
communications to support the needs of the warfighter. The network is
being developed for the Advanced Technology Office of the Defense Advanced
Research Project Agency (DARPA), Arlington, Virginia through the Air Force
Research Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio.
The new network
technology will be developed and tested on DARPA's Optical and Radio
frequency Combined Link Experiment (ORCLE) program. New hardware
and software systems are being developed on the program that will
combine the strengths of the dual technologies while reducing the
effects of the weaknesses of each. A range test of new
communications system is called for in approximately 18 months and the
option for a flight test in 30 months.
Accipiter Systems
specializes in the development of next generation data communications
systems for custom military and commercial applications.
